Medical Acupuncture

What is Medical Acupuncture?

Medical Acupuncture is a peripheral nerve stimulation technique that, through the use of acupuncture needles which are stimulated manually or with electricity, results in a therapeutic change in the soft tissue structures of the body that help to fix dysfunction/pain that a patient may present with.

Treatment targets are based on anatomically defined (neurofunctional) sites and are intended to reverse the neurological dysfunction that leads to clinical presentation of symptoms.

Medical Acupuncture has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Sports Injuries
  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Chronic Pain Syndrome
  • Headaches
  • Disc herniations
  • TMJ Dysfunction
  • Tendonitis
  • Neuralgias
  • Arthritis

Treatments can improve symptoms and sometimes even result in permanent resolution of the pathology, especially when it is the result of nervous system dysregulation.

Many of our practitioners (Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Registered Massage Therapists) at The Clinic Health Group are trained and certified to use medical acupuncture as part of their treatment plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is it safe?

Yes! All of our practitioners are licensed regulated healthcare providers who have many years of training in anatomy and the study of acupuncture. We use single-use needles and dispose of them immediately after treatment.

Does it hurt?

No. Our practitioners are taught a painless needle technique to ensure comfort during a treatment session.  However, on occasion a patient may feel a dull ache or discomfort once needled.  If this occurs, the practitioner will modify the course of treatment to accommodate the patient's needs.

How many appointments do I need?

The number of appointments will depend on the condition and severity of the injury.
