TMJ REHABILITATION

The Clinic Health Group offers TMJ Rehabilitation services in Toronto.

WHAT IS TMJ REHABILITATION?

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunctions cause pain in the jaw joint and the muscles surrounding it. As the TMJ allows for movement both up and down as well as left to right, it is one of the most complex joints in the body. The exact cause of a person’s TMJ disorder is often difficult to determine which is why treatment at The Clinic also includes addressing concerns regarding the neck, ears and head.

COMMON SYMPTOMS CAN INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  •      Pain or tenderness in the jaw or joint
  •      Ear aches
  •      Difficulty chewing
  •      Ringing in your ears
  •      Headaches or migraines
  •      Lock jaw
  •      Neck pain

Your pain can be due to a combination of factors such as (but not limited to) genetics, arthritis, jaw injury or posture.

WHAT DOES TMJ REHABILITATION TREATMENT LOOK LIKE?

Your treatment will begin with an in-depth assessment addressing your health history and the reason for your visit. Your therapist will provide massage treatment to become familiar with your muscles and tissues and provide home care to continue your treatment outside of The Clinic. Treatments may be administered intra-orally if consented. Our professionals will create a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for you and determine the frequency of follow up treatments if needed. In our experience, more than one treatment is usually necessary for most cases however your plan will be personalized based on what you need.
